The Victoria Foundation has released it’s annual Vital Signs Report, and Cost of Living is on the minds of Victorian’s.
Higher prices for food and rent and a lack of social housing continue to create barriers for those living below the poverty line in Greater Victoria. The Victoria Foundation’s 2012 Vital Signs report gives a dismal assessment of the region’s affordability. Social-housing availability had the worst showing, with the wait list growing by 15 per cent in the past year. There were 1,681 people on the B.C. Housing Registry as of March 31, compared to 1,462 at the same point in 2011, earning the region a D on the report.
