Reaching Home

In 2018 the Government of Canada reviewed the Homelessness Partnering Strategy (HPS) and announced it’s evolution into a new program called Reaching Home. Details of that program will be posted here when they become available.

The Government of Canada’s Economic Action Plan, 2013, announced nearly $600M for the Homelessness Partnering Strategy (HPS) for five years, from April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2019. The HPS 2014 – 2019 promotes strategic partnerships to assist people experiencing homelessness and those at-risk of homelessness move towards greater self-sufficiency, with a focus on housing solutions and appropriate supports. This includes a recognition that a stable living situation provides the foundation necessary for improving health, education, and employment in a long-term and sustainable way.

Designated communities, of which Greater Victoria is one, are required to develop a comprehensive Community Plan identifying local needs and funding priorities. This Community Plan is developed through an inclusive community process. For more information, read the Greater Victoria’s Homelessness Partnering Strategy 2014 – 19 Community Plan.
