News

In a stirring display of community engagement and dedication, over 75 partners representing diverse organizations gathered at the Laurel Point Inn on April 29th, 2024, for a pivotal event hosted by the Alliance to End Homelessness in the Capital Region (AEHCR). With a shared commitment to tackle the pressing issue of homelessness, attendees eagerly participated in shaping the future of our Region through the 2025-2030 Community Plan.

The morning commenced with a palpable sense of anticipation. Against the backdrop of Victoria, BC, participants from government agencies, non-profit organizations, businesses, and activists, and concerned citizens convened to hear the results of the 15-month consultation and to lend their voices to shape the Plan that will be presented to the Alliance’s Board in May.

The AEHCR ensured that diverse perspectives were welcomed. From individuals with lived experience of homelessness to policymakers and service providers, each voice was valued and heard, fostering a sense of empowerment and ownership over the Community Plan.

The spirit of collaboration permeated every aspect of the event, as attendees exchanged ideas and provided feedback.  Consensus emerged on key areas of impact: Prevention, Data and Housing, 6 key Outcome areas and our vision of achieveing functional-zero homelessness for our Region.

As the event ended, there was a palpable sense of optimism and determination in the air. The AEHCR expressed gratitude to all participants for their invaluable contributions and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the community as we operationalize and implement the Plan together.

In retrospect, the AEHCR’s Community Plan event stands as a testament to the power of collective action and the unwavering resolve of individuals united in pursuit of a common cause. As the community charts its course forward, guided by shared values of compassion, equity, and justice, the journey towards ending homelessness takes on new meaning—one characterized by hope, resilience, and possibility.
