Capital Regional District Resource Guide 2025

The Alliance to End Homelessness in the Capital Region (AEHCR), with the invaluable support of the Capital Region District and our dedicated community partners, is pleased to present the Resource Guide to our community. This initiative is aimed at providing accessible and essential resources to those in need, and we are committed to ensuring that this guide reaches everyone as swiftly as possible. As we move forward, we will be working diligently to refine and enhance the interface of the Resource Guide, focusing on improving its functionality and accessibility to make it even more user-friendly. We believe that by doing so, we can ensure that the guide serves its purpose effectively and is a helpful tool for all members of the community. The Resource Guide is available to everyone, and we greatly value your feedback and suggestions. Your input will be essential in helping us make necessary improvements to ensure the guide meets your needs and provides the best possible support. Thank you for being a part of this important initiative.

Please note that the Resource Guide is organized across multiple tabs, each representing a different thematic area or resource category, such as community partners, support services, or program contacts. Within each tab, the entries are consistently structured with names serving as the primary organizing principle. This includes the names of organizations, programs, or key personnel, which are typically listed alphabetically. This name-based structure allows for intuitive navigation and efficient lookup, ensuring users can quickly locate a specific resource or contact by name. Supplementary information such as roles, locations, and contact details are associated with each name entry, providing a comprehensive and user-friendly reference tool.

This project is made possible by the generous support of The Capital Region District.

Creating Community Voice and Space for Seniors:
The Senior’s System Mapping Project

The Seniors Mapping Project was created to support older adults in the Capital Region by focusing on two urgent issues: preventing elder abuse and reducing the risk of homelessness. The goal was to strengthen social inclusion and improve access to essential services through a community-led approach.

To guide this work, the Greater Victoria Coalition to End Homelessness (GVCEH), known as the Alliance to End Homelessness in the Capital Region (AEHCR), formed the Seniors Community Voices Committee (SCVC), made up of six older adults (ages 55–79) with diverse lived experiences. Members were recruited through community outreach and social media to ensure a broad range of perspectives, including those whose experience as shaped by housing insecurity, low income, gender-based violence, Indigenous and 2SLGBTQIA+ identities.

Although the AECHR’s original plan included focus groups and co-design at every stage, activities had to be scaled back due to the dissolution of the organization. Still, meaningful feedback from the SCVC strongly shaped a set of final materials.

The SCVC emphasized the importance of reducing social isolation and encouraging new activities, such as volunteering, as essential to healthy aging. To this end, with our shortened timeline, two practical resources were created.

• CCVSS Infographic – a quick, accessible tool highlighting priority areas identified by the SCVC and the AECHR’s Lived and Living Experience Council (LLEC).

• CCVSS Resource Guide – a starting point for seniors in the CRD, featuring emergency and preventative supports. While not exhaustive, this resource reflects many of the insights shared through SCVC and LLEC discussions.

Although the AEHCR project shifted from the original vision, seniors’ perspectives remained central. Their input provided valuable insights that directly shaped the final resources provided.
