Life Skills | SOCLA | This program offers individual and group services to children and youth with developmental disabilities ranging in age from 6 – 17 years old. KUU-US Crisis Line | KUU-US Crisis Line Society | KUU-US Crisis Line Society provides support to callers with in the Port Alberni area as well as Indigenous people throughout the province of British Columbia. Once the issue for support has been identified, the level of severity for call handling is determined. The goal is to establish a non-judgmental approach to listening and problem solving. A support system is put into place where the caller is brought back to a pre-crisis state. Debriefing is also provided to any front line worker who works with in the field. KUU-US also maintains and in-depth referral database. The Adult/Elder, Child/Youth and Toll free lines are funded by the First Nations Health Authority and the Métis line is funded by Métis Nation British Columbia. Anney's Closet | Soroptimist International of Victoria Westshore | Anney’s Closet is a “free store” for women who are transitioning to a new, usually independent living situation. Anney's Closet "shoppers" are often fleeing violence, domestic abuse or other unsafe living situations, or aging out of foster care. Women in need of assistance in outfitting their new homes are referred to us from advocates at our partner agencies, social workers, youth and family counsellors, and school counsellors who watch over girls in foster care, girls pregnant or parenting at a young age, or women living in a recovery or transition house. Using household items donated by downsizing seniors, friends of Soroptimists, and other kind-hearted folks in our community, shoppers are able to shop for free for the household items they need to transform their living space into a functional and comfortable home. Goods are acquired by donation from the community and are carefully curated and displayed in a shop-like setting. |
